Checklist For Moving

Send Change Of Address To:

____ Post Office – Give forwarding address
____ Charge accounts, credit card institutions
____ Subscriptions – requires several weeks notice
____ Friends and relatives


Other Important Things To Do:

____ Bank - Transfer funds, arrange check cashing in new city
____ Insurance - Notify new location for coverage (Life, Health, Fire, Auto)
____ Automobile registration - Transfer of car title registration, if necessary. Change of address on driver’s license, city windshield sticker, motor club membership
____ Utility Companies - Gas, electricity, water, telephone. Get refund of any deposits made, arrange for immediate service in new locations
____ Route men - Laundry, newspaper, milkman
____ School records - Ask for copies or transfer of children’s records
____ Medical, dental, prescription histories - Ask doctor or dentist for referrals, transfer needed prescriptions, eyeglasses, x-rays, etc
____ Church, club, civic organizations – Transfer memberships, get letter of introduction
____ Ask about regulations for pet licenses, vaccinations, tags, etc


And Don’t Forget To:

____ Empty freezer, plan use of foods
____ Defrost freezer/refrigerator, place charcoal to dispel odors
____ Have appliances serviced for moving
____ Remember arrangements for TV antennae, cable, satellite dish, internet
____ Clean rugs or clothing before moving, have them moving wrapped
____ With your moving counselor, check Insurance coverage, packing and unpacking labor, arrival day, various shipping papers, method and time of expected payment
____ Plans for special care needs of infants


On Moving Day

____ Carry currency, jewelry, and documents yourself or use registered mail
____ Plan for transporting pets, they are poor traveling companions if unhappy
____ Carr travelers checks for quick available funds
____ Let close friends or relative know route and schedule you will travel including overnight stops. Use him as a message headquarters
____ Double check closets, drawers, shelves to be sure they are empty
____ Leave all old keys needed by new owner with your real estate agent
